Half Way to Everywhere in the Middle of Nowhere

Welcome to Buffalo Range.

A Destination Rental in Northwest Kansas.

Buffalo Range, a destination rental, is a working ranch nine miles south of Monument, Kansas. The surrounding open prairie has never felt a plow; horses and cattle occupy the pastures most of the year; native grasses, wildflowers, cacti, and succulents surround the homestead. We say we are "half way to everywhere in the middle of nowhere" because we're central to an amazing number of historic, geologic, recreational, photographic, and hunting sites. It will take you several days to see it all!

Why The Name?

Before counties were organized in Kansas Territory, early maps, such as this 1868 Kansas Pacific Railroad map, labeled the open prairie as "Buffalo Range".  As a reflection of the vast openness surrounding the ranch, and in honor of the history so prevalent in the area, the only name that summed up the experience was Buffalo Range.
